The Old Vicarage, Sleeps 18, Cheshire
A few rather amazing facilities here might have popped up since The Old Vicarage stopped serving the Victorian clergy. Sorry, vicar. However, grandeur and elegance have lived here since 1840. Tastefully updated, this Cheshire Manor house now offers a font of fun for families, friends, corporate-retreaters and the odd pet dog or two.
Sleeping 18 guests in eight classically beautiful bedrooms, The Old Vicarage sits close to the Welsh and Shropshire borders perfect for outdoor pursuits, where the Cheshire Plain peters out and high hills rise to enjoy the view. Climb Bickerton Hill, then come home to high beams, freestanding baths and period colours, all topped off with a leisure suite for sweating and swimming.
There’s a Romanesque look to the 10.5-metre indoor pool, with its pillars, panels and cornicing. Heated to 31 degrees, it would keep even Caligula happy. He’d probably enjoy the six-seat hot tub, too. But enough lounging and lazing: the gym awaits, with its treadmill, cross trainer, free weights and bench.
Shower off for dinner prepared in the outdoor kitchen, complete with gas pizza oven, bar, bar fridge and barbecue. Head back inside for the cinema room: don’t forget your passwords for the smart TV. Wrap up the day with cocktails, drinking in the views surrounding the holiday house. Looks like it’s time to find a reason to celebrate and get together.
