Wine, dine and luxuriate

With the lake on your doorstep, it’s hard not to be enchanted by Windermere Retreat. The Edwardian home invites you to wine, dine and luxuriate in its recently renovated rooms, all set within one of the Lake District’s most desired addresses. The grand vaulted windows bring the wonder of Windermere indoors and there are lake views aplenty.

Nestled within two acres of mature, private gardens, you’ll certainly want to head outdoors to explore. But what will you do first? The lake offers all manner of watersports, from kayaking and sailing to jet skiing and luxury yacht hire. Get your hiking boots on and climb the peaks and fells of the lakes, hire bikes or simply marvel at the beauty of your surroundings.

Perfectly equipped for your every need, the open plan kitchen-dining-living space is large enough for the whole family to gather. Prepare dinner, or order in, and open the doors to the garden, where you’ll find a vast sundeck, complete with sofas, armchairs and more for you to drink and dine al-fresco, whilst the children head off to play in the treehouse.

There are plenty of living spaces to choose from. Will you take the grand Edwardian sitting room, or the cinema room, or stick to the bright and social open-plan kitchen? After a long day of adventures, laughter and fun, head off to one of the exquisitely appointed bedrooms with plush soft furnishings and views across the water. It’s so perfect here that you may never want to leave.

Speaking of nights under the stars, have you ever wanted a sleepover in a treehouse? If so, you’re in luck. Windermere Retreat’s treehouse is fitted with electricity and wifi for kids, and big kids alike, to enjoy. As the children make the most of the zip wire and tree swing, adults can dine al-fresco on the terrace with a cocktail or two.

You came to Windermere Retreat for the lakes, of course, and this spectacular home is perfectly situated above Windermere, a short distance from quaint Bowness, Ambleside and many more of the Lake District’s popular destinations.

Living spaces

After a long day exploring the fells and peaks of Windermere, head through the boot room, throw your clothes in the washing machine and hang up your hiking equipment. It’s now time to relax in one of the stunning living spaces on offer.

The colour palette at Windermere Retreat is cool, calm and collected, inviting you in to sink into its sumptuous sofas and inviting armchairs in front of one of five (yes, five!) large Smart TV’s. Pop some popcorn and gather the whole family together to flick through Netflix and Amazon Prime on the 75″ screen in the cinema room. Want the full cinema experience? Just call on the voice-activated curtains to close, no need to get up from the electric leather recliners.

There are Amazon Alexa speakers in most rooms, along with an Amazon Music Unlimited subscription, so you can sing and dance the night away around the open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, whilst the BT superfast Broadband keeps the music streaming for you. If you are looking to get away from it all, retire to the grand Edwardian sitting room and cosy up with a book in front of the fireplace.

Cooking and dining

Windermere Retreat’s dining spaces are the perfect marriage of Edwardian elegance and modern-luxe living. The formal dining room, with its high ceilings and ornate detailing, seats ten guests comfortably for a long night of laughter, drinks and sophisticated dining. For a more relaxed affair, gather around the eight-seater table in the open-plan kitchen-diner for a Sunday morning breakfast with a coffee from the Nespresso machine, whilst the morning light streams through the vaulted windows.

There are plenty of designer appliances available in the kitchen for you chef it up, a-la-Jamie Oliver, including a large induction hob and three electric ovens, which include a plate warmer. Cook up a storm and follow dinner with a bottle of wine, kept cool in one of the four wine fridges. Then head to bed and let the two integrated dishwashers do the clean up for you.

If eating out is more your thing, the renowned Storrs Hall Hotel is just a short stroll from the property, along with other fabulous dining options from a range of famous Michelin one and two-star restaurants such as the Gilpin & Gilpin Spice, Rogan’s and L’Enclume. Alternatively, if you wish to sample creative Lakeland cuisine, try the numerous cosy local pubs and restaurants, which are a short and scenic country walk from your doorstep.

The indoor dining options are fantastic, but, remember, you’re in the Lake District. What’s better than dining al-fresco in a place as beautiful as this? Windermere Retreat is complete with a gas barbecue and a dining table on its vast terrace, which is over 100 square metres. Open up the glass doors, fire up the BBQ and relax on the outdoor armchairs and sofas whilst dinner cooks. Feeling chilly as the night draws in? No problem, get the gas garden fire going and stay toasty all night long.
