Be king or queen of Bath

Be king or queen of Bath perched high in the hills with vertiginous views of the city. The Ridge is a slice of modern magic for 12 perfectly positioned to soak up Bath’s contemporary culture, hot springs and gorgeous Georgian grace before retiring to stream, surf and sleep in the heavy silence that hangs over the valley.

Vertiginous views of the valley

Ever wanted to be king or queen of Bath? Perched high in the hills above the city, The Ridge will make royalty out of you. Sleeping 12 in a spanking-new, sparkling wooden-clad gem, The Ridge faces south over the honey-coloured Georgian beauty of the Bath valley among ten acres of private meadow and ancient woodland.

But The Ridge is far more than a delicious view. It’s a slice of modern magic with a gallery here, a wet room there, a fully equipped kitchen there, and high-end fixtures and fittings everywhere you look. For families, hens and dogs, The Ridge offers space, light and great lumps of luxury living.

Soak up the contemporary culture of Bath, bathe in the hot springs, walk the Royal Crescent, climb Solsbury Hill, then get together on giant sofas to catch favourite shows on the 55” smart TV, stream and surf on the BT Infinity ultrafast wifi, pour the drinks, hog the remote, and chew the fat. Or just stare at the views.

Cook fresh local fare on the two fan ovens, or out in the garden on the barbie with the vertiginous views of the city beneath you. Hop out to the Hare and Hounds for salt-and-pepper squid and Pinot Nero. Potter the Domesday village of Charlcombe. Sleep enveloped in crisp linen and the heavy, homely silence that hangs over the valley.

Gardens and grounds

How do you like your slice of silence? High up in the hills with a spectacular perspective on one of England’s most-gorgeous cities? A place where you can lose yourself in ten acres of private meadow and ancient woodland? That’s The Ridge. And get your steaks and sausages ready for the barbie, with side order of big skies and stupendous views.

Living spaces

You can talk forever about the modern beauty of the living spaces here, about the contemporary furnishings, the clean white walls, the homely rugs and the scatter cushions, but you’ll probably just want to wander over to the big picture window that seems to hang over the valley. It’s rude to ignore the elephant in the room.

Open the patio doors to the south and enjoy the afternoon sun. Then, after darkness descends and the lights add salt and pepper to the black spaces, you might find it tough to focus on the movie or the match you chose on the 55” smart TV, or to tear yourself away from the BT Infinity ultrafast wifi. Curtains? Who needs curtains?

Pile in together into the open-plan living, kitchen and dining room (with the view) on the soft sofas to drink your drinks and snack on snacks, or find solitary escapism in the office/snug. Elsewhere, there’s a grand sense of scale, with the galleried landing, and handy additions, like a utility room and a boot room for post-yomp storage.

The ridge is much more than a base to hang out while exploring the Georgian gorgeousness of beautiful Bath. It’s a home from home, a luxury experience in itself, dripping with modern convenience and scenic splendour. Bring your friends and family or your gal pals and chill in the lap of luxury awhile.

Cooking and dining

The kitchen here is the heat and the heart of the home. It’s a super-sociable open-plan affair that takes in the living and dining areas, too. If you can keep away from the picture window in the living room long enough, you’ll enjoy a big, contemporary kitchen with high-end fixtures and appliances. It’s perfect for guestfest mega-cooking.

Cook on the two fan ovens and five-burner hob, or outside on the coal barbie beneath the big skies that hover over Bath. Eat around the eight-seater table. If you’d prefer not to be distracted from the valley experience, call us up. We’ll get our whites on and magic up a one-off celebration or fully catered break while you marinate in the views.

Get your groceries from Bath Farmers’ Market, Goodies deli or Avellino’s Italian. Eat 8oz steak washed down with Prosecco Brut in the village at the Hare and Hounds or explore the bars and bites of Bath. You’ll need a car or taxi, but once you’re there, the bistros and gastros are all at arm’s reach.

Roll out the red carpet for the Michelin-starred Olive Tree. Enjoy a side order of jazz with your locally farmed steak at Green Park Brasserie. Enjoy relaxed yet sophisticated all-day dining at The Ivy Bath Brasserie. Or come in September for the Great Bath Feast, with chef demos, a foodie trail, and a Milsom Street market.

Bedrooms

There are only winners here at bedtime. Gently snoring winners encased in crisp linen and oblivious to the wider world. Choose from five glorious bedrooms (plus the snug) and part the heavy curtains in the morning for views of the valley before breakfast.

Bedroom one is a superking en-suite, while bedroom two offers twin beds that are perfect for kids (ask us about cots as well). Bedroom three is a double and bedroom four a kingsize en-suite. Bedroom five offers child-friendly bunks. There’s a sofa bed for two in the snug with green views galore. Sweet dreams.

Such a great location and what a view! Peaceful, yet close enough to everything we needed. We loved the modern feel and how spacious the house is. Would recommend. - Rhiannon
