Visit Warwickshire for castles, culture & countryside

As one of the five counties that make up the Cotswolds, it’s fair to say Warwickshire has plenty to offer for nature-lovers, hikers and anyone who wants to get out and about. That’s paired with an abundance of picture-perfect villages like Temple Grafton and Welford-on-Avon for those who like to take things a little slower.

At the heart of the county, you’ll find Warwick and Leamington Spa. The former is home to an iconic clifftop fortress, Warwick Castle, with the latter renowned for its Georgian, Regency and Victorian architecture. If castles are your thing, Kennilworth Castle is another stand-out from the region’s abundant offering, complete with flawlessly restored Elizabethan gardens mimicking their appearance from the 16th century.

The best things to do in Warwickshire

No guide to Warwickshire would be complete without mentioning the Bard himself – William Shakespeare. In Stratford-upon-Avon, you’ll find some of the best attractions Britain (and the world) has to offer for literary fans.

Visit Shakespeares birthplace to see where the story began, with a tour of his childhood home, then onto Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, where a young Shakespeare would have visited his wife-to-be. That’s topped off with the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, where you can see a plethora of his original works brought to life.

Elsewhere, the kids will love the MAD Museum – dedicated to the wonders of mechanical art and design. Or head to Stratford Butterfly Farm to see hundreds of mesmerising butterflies in a truly exotic environment. Going from exotic to serene, Charlecote Park is home to its own deer park on the banks of the River Avon. Or head to Jephson Gadens in Leamington Spa – a tranquil paradise, perfect for a boat trip on the lake.
