Come for the private-estate holiday on the North Yorkshire coast – stay for covered balcony views of the lake, private terraces and vibrant interiors.
But don’t forget to leave. Other guests would like a go, too. And what’s that in the distance? It’s the Raithwaite Sandsend hotel, where you can pay to use the rather nice restaurant, bar and spa.
On site, everything is geared up to family living. Close by the rustic fishing villages that cling to the ragged cliffs and the fossil-rich rockpools of the North-York coast, Whitby Lakehouse is an oak-beamed, white-walled gem sleeping 14 in six deliciously decadent bedrooms. And is there a lake? Of course. Watch the ducks land from the balcony.
After a day exploring the country and coast, burning logs and family films on Smart TV’s. Sleep in crisp linens in premium-styled bedrooms. Take morning coffee on the balcony and breakfast on the patio. Then head off to the beach or to find Dracula.
Life here revolves around the lake, with the splash and ripple of landing ducks providing the backdrop to your stay. It sits in a gated, private garden and drive with parking for six cars. It’s all yours for the duration, as is the outdoor barbecue. Load it up with steaks and sausages and decide to eat indoors or out on the patio.
Take a walk around the lake, a 10 minute walk to the beach or follow the paths across the fields to Newholm and PennyClare homes, wares and café.
Explore the estate grounds, walk the mature gardens or take the 3 minute walk to the hotel to enjoy the pool, spa or bar. You might even be able to bring your dog. Ask us.
Welcome to family-friendly living spaces split over three magnificent storeys.
How magnificent? The owners have an eye for detail and style and the house is all geared up for sociable, stylish get-togethers that come with a choice of location.
It all begins in the welcoming entrance hall with its wood-burning stove and piano – the perfect spot for solitary, book-based escapes or throw open the kitchen doors and create a large open plan party area. Up the stairs, break out onto the large landing with its plush chairs and lake views from the balcony or head to the grand living room, load up the logs in the fire and spread out on the L-shaper to catch up on your favourite box set or latest blockbuster.
Kitchens should be social hubs, places for milling and mixing, and Whitby Lakehouse has built-in expertise. A slick kitchen comes with all manner of modern appliances integrated fan assisted oven, gas and induction hobs. Celebrate around the kitchen table with double doors open to the garden or relax around the solid-wood living-room table.
Pick a peaceful spot outdoors on one of two seating areas. Get the coal barbecue going, or take a picnic out to the lake or down to the beach. Breakfast on your balcony might not be too shabby, either.
