Surfer dudes and cocktail queens

Torrs Park House on the Devon coast is a glamorous getaway as much for lounge lizards who love a lounge cocktail bar as for wild North Coast surfer dudes and babes. Plunge into the warm waters of the indoor pool, drink in the valley views, twirl your way to success on the table football, sleep in four-posted fabulousness.

Bring your cravat and classic Jag

Walking, shooting, golfing, wild-swimming are all on the cards at glamorous Torrs Park House on the untamed North Devon coast. That, and being a lounge lizard in the rather ritzy cocktail bar. Perfect for 21 family, friends, hens, stags or corporate retreaters, this is the seaside pleasure pad for which you’ve been frantically Googling.

While the surf crashes against the wild shore just minutes away, the house shimmers in serene, sophisticated contrast. Roam a one-acre garden set over three terraces and wander down to the Wilder Brook. Plunge into the delightfully warm waters of the ten-metre indoor pool. Or twirl your way to success on the table football.

This was once a Victorian villa built as a gentleman’s residence, and much of that vibe lingers at Torrs Park House. The Soho-style bar comes dressed in leopard-skin and racy artwork and comes complete with cocktail shakers, ice buckets, fridges and all the glasses you need. Don’t forget your cravat or cocktail dress, plus that classic Jag.

Cook in the semi-industrial kitchen or consider shipping-in Seadog Catering or Tommy G’s for a one-off feast or fully catered break. Check out the valley views from the sun room. Barbecue your burgers outside the pool room. Roast and toast marshmallows around the firepit. Then bag the best bedrooms and get a dose of four-posted fantasy.

Swimming pool, garden and grounds

Been for a dip in the heated indoor pool? Recover in the outside seating area right outside over burgers and bangers on the coal barbecue. Pour yourself a Prosecco. Wander the one-acre garden set over three terraces and potter down to the Wilder Brook at the bottom. End the day flaming marshmallows around the firepit.

Living spaces

You’ve plenty of spaces for socialising or recharging but you’ll probably want to make a beeline for the leopard skin-clad, gentlemen’s-club cocktail bar with its cocktail shakers, ice buckets, fridges and all the glasses in the world. Don’t feel obliged to roll up in a Jaguar and wear a cravat or cocktail dress, but it seems appropriate.

Out in the grounds, the 10-metre indoor pool waits for you to breach its surface and revel in water heated to 28 degrees. Dry off and there’s just time for a game of table footie before supper. At night, stream your Netflix and Amazon Prime Video over the BT Business broadband or bury yourself in a book from the shelf.

Cooking and dining

If you’re itching to baste, bubble, boil and braise, you won’t be disappointed with the two electric ovens and the five gas rings, backed up by three fridge-freezers and microwave. Fancy eating al-fresco after your dip in the pool? There’s room for 16 on the terrace with the coal barbecue ready to tackle your steaks.

Take deliveries from Asda or Sainsbury’s, get your meat from Mike Turton butcher’s and your green stuff from All Seasons’ Fruit and Veg. First Saturday of the month? Treat yourself at Ilfracombe Farmers’ Market. Stock up on fizz from Bray Valley Wines and stop off for a tasting.

Pop out to the pub for Tom’s Pies at The Thatched Inn in Ilfracombe, Devonshire duck breast or wagyu beef burger at The Pyne Arms, or scampi or linguine at The Rock Inn. Make a night of it at Giovanni and Luca’s for pasta, pizza and seafood. Or try contemporary British at New Coast Kitchen, or harbour views at the Lime Kiln Cafe.

What people say

Nicely situated near the centre of Ilfracombe this is a fantastic place for gatherings of fiends and family. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The bar and function areas are equally good and there is a large kitchen with everything you would need for self catering or professional caterers. The garden is lovely and leads to the indoor pool and a babbling brook at the end. Highly recommended. - Minvalp
Beautiful house to share with family or friends for a special occasion. 8 spacious bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms. Brilliant communal areas from drinking in the bar, eating in the large dining room or hanging out in the indoor pool. We were a party of 18 and we would highly recommend. Great location to both walk and drive to local towns and beaches. - Gina
