Sleeps 16-24
Cockermouth, Lake District
All of Lakeland and its infinite possibilities stretch before you. There are hills to climb, waters to conquer, museums to explore, steam trains to ride, and captive wildlife to captivate young minds.
First up, though, your little monkeys might like to Go Ape at Whinlatter, up in the trees or on board a Segway. Meet wolf hybrids and birds of prey at the Predator Experience (Walking with Wolves) in Cartmel. Row the lake or go all Bear Grylls with Keswick Canoe and Bushcraft, or go underground at Honister Mine.
Bring childhood books alive at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness, or see the home of poetry at nearby Wordsworth House. At Maryport Aquarium, see the aquarium and aquatic display hall, then hit the adventure park with model boats and crazy golf. Refuel in the café.
Meet over 100 species of exotic animals at the Lake District Wildlife Park, ride the La’l Ratty Ravenglass and Eskdale steam train, try climbing, caving and ghyll scrambling at Kong Adventure, or make drama even more magical at the Theatre by the Lake at Derwentwater.
Walk the Lakes, through mountainous, wildlife-rich Whinlatter Forest Park, or in the footsteps of Wainwright, along his routes to the summits of any of the 214 Lakeland fells. Stay outdoors and let us organise clay-pigeon shooting, quad-biking, local farm walks or salmon and trout fishing for you.
Get your irons out and play gorgeous golf courses at Cockermouth, Maryport, Workington and Silloth. Fish the River Derwent for brown trout and grayling. Or tickle some more trout at Watendlath Trout Fishery. Hire bikes and potter the Lakeland lanes at 4 Play in Cockermouth or saddle up on horses at Lane Head Stables.
Indulge yourself in fluffy bathrobes at Armathwaite Hall Hotel’s spa, with treatments and therapies designed to enhance every aspect of wellbeing and relaxation. Up the pace at Rookin House in Troutbeck, with quad bikes, indoor go-karts, archery or an ArgoCat off-road experience.
Hire canoes from Derwentwater Marina, Go Ape high in the trees at Whinlatter, immerse yourself in art, the arts and local food at the cultural Rheged Centre, or take a magical history tour at Dalemain House and Gardens or Carlisle Cathedral and Castle. Or just potter down to the pub.
Staying in is the new going out. Especially when surrounded by luxury and grandeur. There’s a dinner party waiting right here at home around the dining table that seats 24, and a professional kitchen that will bring out the best in you… or us, if you fancy a night off. Spread out, mix, mingle, or hide away in your own nook or cranny.
Nooks and crannies get no better than the elevated barbecue lodge in the garden. Make your excuses, then sneak away with a good book or a pair of headphones and find your own world, with the firepit in full flow. Or get a group together and share a night of steaks and stories in a special place.
The giant living room here is perfect for a party, or just a movie or match night, with the 65-inch TV waiting on the wall. As dusk descends, where better to be than in the bubbling hot tub, gazing at the stars and toasting the good life? Need to keep in touch or download a movie? The quickest thing around here is the broadband.
Competitive dads (and mums) can head to the play barn for a spot of table tennis, pool, darts or traditional board games. You can play cricket and croquet on the lawn or whack a ball into the nets on the grass. Or take things up a notch with a murder-mystery game or a little home pampering. We can help.
