Big, baronial and lots of fun

Join the gentry in a baronially brilliant home right on the Cotswold Way, with world-famous Stinchcombe Hill Golf Course just through the gates and Leaf and Ground organic produce next door. What’s that over the estuary? It’s Wales. Yes, the views are fab, but so is the size: two houses take 28 adults, four children, and maybe a dog.

How about parking? Good point. There’s room for just the 20 cars. So Stinchcombe Hill House is big, it’s baronial and it’s lots of fun behind those stone-mullion windows. Work out in the on-site gym with your own trainer, book a massage in the treatment room, party under the disco lights, and play the round of golf we booked for you.

You might like to spend some time in the games room: pick from pool, snooker, table football, darts, board games and the games console. You’ll also want to sizzle in the steam room. Then pop out to the renowned Leaf and Ground restaurant or Spring Villa, the local sports bar, to enjoy delicious coffee and treats.

Maybe you’ll treat yourself to our in-house catering, from a barbecue to a hog roast to a 32-person, five-course blowout. Then catch a movie on the projector in the cinema room or chat around the fire pit. Finally, pick from eight delicious en-suite bedrooms in the main building and five more in the stables.

Gardens and grounds

Explore one-and-a-half acres of unspoilt English greenery, with immediate access to 20 acres of woodland walks. Lap up the estuary views across to Wales and Nibley Monument. Eat outdoors on the dining tables under a heated and covered pergola at the Stables. Wrap up the day with a natter and a nightcap around the fire pit.

Beyond the garden, you’ve more al-fresco fun walking the Cotswold Way from the garden or on the world-class Stinchcombe Hill Golf Course, just through the gate. Let us book your rounds in advance for you and even lend you our buggies. We’re nice like that.

Living spaces

Live like the landed gentry in a fine Cotswold-stone Edwardian manor house. Under the multi-gabled stone roof of the main house, behind stone-mullion windows, sit log-warmed reception rooms awash with luxury and bursting with fun facilities. Capture them all for Instagram and load them over the 5G unlimited router.

Choose from four reception rooms in the main house. Bag a book for the cosy reading room. Chill in the oak-panelled lobby. Mis-spend some youth, or even old age, over the large snooker table. Live it up in the party room with disco lights and sound system. Or waste a few hours on table football, darts and board games.

Sizzle in the steam room. Keep your workout routine intact in the on-site gym (with personal trainer option). Come together for a movie over the projector in the cinema room or in the New Stables’ living space warmed by the wood-burner beneath the low oak beams.

Cooking and dining

Feel free to book our expert chefs for anything from a hog roast or barbecue to a five-course extravaganza for 32. But if you’re catering for yourself, you’ll love the main house’s country kitchen complete with Aga and breakfast table for 20. Or slide out from here through the French doors to eat on the terrace with stunning Severn views.

The kitchen in the Stables can dine everyone lodged there. But for an al-fresco experience the weather can’t spoil, pile out onto the handmade dining tables under the heated and covered pergola. Shop at Sainsbury’s or Tesco, with meat from Cam Butchers and other goodies from the Stroud Farmers’ Market.

Treat yourself to takeaways from Pizza Planet, Dursley Kebab House, or fish and chips from The Great British Takeaway. Head to Spring Villa Sports Bar for beer and great grub or to Leaf and Ground deli for delicious coffee and breakfast. Or pub it at The Old Spot Inn and The Fox at Coaley.

Head into Dursley to Della Casa for risotto branzino, pollo con funghi or piccante pizza. Try the 17th-century, Cotswold-stone Old Lodge in Minchinhampton for Thai green curry, chargrilled pork steak or a granary baguette. Or push the boat out at Michelin-starred destination restaurant Le Champignon Sauvage.

Bedrooms

Surrounded by the unmatched beauty and serenity of the Cotswolds and hugged by sprung hybrid pocket-gel mattresses, Egyptian-cotton bedding, feather pillows and duvets, you’ll have less trouble drifting off than getting up in the morning. Choose from 13 beautiful – all en-suite – bedrooms across two properties.

In the main house, Pedersen is a super king with TV, while Booth offers a kingsize bed and TV and en-suite shower. McMurtry and Budding both provide an emperor with TV and Dyson is a kids’ room with triple bunk (each with their own TV) and small double.

Jenner provides a super king, plus a single day bed for a child, while Tyndale is an emperor with TV. Lister offers a super king plus small double sofa bed with dividing curtains and two TVs.

In the Stables, pick from four self-contained suites with their own front doors. Brumby is a super king with TV, while Pinto gives you an emperor bed and patio. Appaloosa and Falabella are both en-suites with TV and patio, and master suite Campolina offers an emperor bed and balcony with large Jacuzzi bath.

Most rooms have space for a cot and/or a z-bed and the ground-floor bedrooms in the Stables are suitable for disabled access.
