Fronting a verdant sweep of oak, fir and beech and keeping watch over Windermere’s waters is Lakeside House.
A stunning Georgian home dressed in contemporary luxury, Lakeside House is sustained by biomass and spiced by literary connections. They include Beatrix Potter, whose ‘The Fairy Caravan’ was set here, and William Wordsworth, who wandered the woods, lonely as a cloud.
Snuggle up at the fireside with a page-turner. Party hard and clear your head fast in the Lakeland air. Sleep the deepest sleep in crisp linen. Explore the 5000-acre ultimate adventure playground. Fish the trout-laden lake. Go Ape at Grizedale. Or just sit pretty and watch the lake steamer part the lapping waters.
The lovely shape of the Drawing Room allows for sofas, armchairs and footstools to fall into casual and homely groupings. It has a nice feel and purpose without feeling designed. It’s beautifully light with pastel walls and floor-length windows on two sides and views to the lake. Perfect for daytime planning and evening socialising.
Perfect for relaxing, the Library is comfortable and casual and doubles as a leisure room with a card table set up for backgammon and board games in the dresser. It’s a lovely light room that catches the morning sun and has plenty of armchairs and large sofas to enjoy the views over the gardens to the lake.
Fully equipped would be an understatement for a luxury Kitchen that includes beautiful handmade cupboards, marble worktops, a glass washer as well as two dishwashers, conventional and steam ovens, conventional and induction hobs, remote-controlled extractor fan, two fridge-freezers, masses of glasses, crockery and cutlery, and plenty of spares in the larder area below the kitchen. One long table comfortably seats 18 guests for relaxed conversation. And glass doors and amazing views over the gardens to the lake. It’s a dream.
The kitchen at Lakeside House is breathtaking, with floor to ceiling windows opening out to an ever changing view of the lake. In contrast the Dining Room is a grand affair, perfect for a big celebration – or supper of fish fresh from the lake.
