You can spend a day at Monkey World, an internationally-acclaimed ape rescue centre set in 65 acres of beautiful Dorset woodland and home to over 230 primates – including the largest group of chimps outside Africa. The park is imaginatively laid out and has a huge climbing area for children.
A short drive away, Bovington Tank Museum houses the world’s broadest and best collection of tanks. Or take the ferry to Poole and pick up a boat trip around Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island.
The Studland Peninsula is a nature reserve of sand dunes and heath. The sandy beaches stretch for three miles from South Haven, where the Sandbanks ferry arrives, to Old Harry Rocks.
Head to the beach for watersports, surfing, paddle boarding or coasteering. On the beach at Studland Bay is Studland Sea School. Offering a wide range of kayaking tours and hire, kayak fishing, coasteering and snorkelling catering for all levels of ability.
Or head inland and try some of the country pursuits which can be arranged close by to the house, including clay pigeon shooting, horse riding, archery and cycle hire.
