Has it really got 11 bathrooms? Oh yes. Daleview Manor, sleeping 30 hard by the trout-rich trickle of the Peak District’s River Dane, gives you all that and much more. Restored to a presidential standard, it could host the G7 summit. You’ll certainly feel like a world leader in the 30-seat glass-walled dining room.
Everything here is big, wide, high, and handsome, from the sumptuous sweep of the L-shaped seating to the huge attic room with ten curtained-off alcoves perfect for kiddie capers. Start your day with a few lengths of the heated indoor pool, eat out around the barbecue and pizza ovens, magic-up late-night movies in the media room.
Get your flow going indoors in the yoga studio. Cook on four electric ovens in a gorgeous graphite hunk of a kitchen. Or call up our chef for the heavy lifting. Walk the big waterfall at Wildboarclough, hike the hilly Macclesfield Forest, perk up with a pint in a country inn, and come home to a roaring fire and a bubbling tub.
The fun flows from house to garden here. Get out there for pétanque and croquet. Then wander the orchards, dripping in birdsong, and sink some bubbles as you sink into the hot-tub bubbles. Fire up the pizza oven or Braai barbecue. And end the day discussing Yakisugi around the sculpted stone table. Clue: it’s how they built the house.
Spaces at Daleview Manor seem built on a different scale. And they’re certainly constructed in a different way, being the first property in Europe built using Yakisugi, which chars the wooden skeleton until black. Today, conviviality is key here: it’s a perfect retreat for corporate away-days, friendly celebrations or big family affairs.
Pick a reception room and relax on a festival of soft sofas that sprawl for miles. Swim in the heated indoor pool. Find your flow in the yoga room. Bring your passwords to summon up family films in the media room with its projector screen. Get together, share stories, pass the wine. Relax in a haven of lazy luxury.
The living spaces here are operatic in scale, and the dining room is just as theatrical, with its 30-seat table seemingly gearing up for a world-leaders’ summit. Admire the greenery and garden sculptures through the glass wall, or get out there to cook supper in the pizza oven or on the South African-style Braai barbecue.
Take breakfast on the run around the kitchen island in the fully equipped, modern kitchen with its four electric ovens. Cook here, or be cooked for by our in-house expert chefs from DineIndulge with a range of multicultural menus. Enjoy takeaways from Indian Thali, Gurkha Dining, and Cherry Blossom Bakery.
Stock up on goodies from New Pastures Farm Shop, or Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Asda in Macclesfield. Head out to great pubs, including The Rose and Crown for mussels in cider and delicious duck. Or get to the second-highest pub in Cheshire, The Hanging Gate, for home-made lasagne and great views.
Head into Macclesfield for multicultural dining, including Aquila for Italian, Prime Cut for a burger and a beer, Bacchus for modern British including chargrilled breast of chicken and wild-mushroom linguine, and Bayleaf for Indian. Or try a meticulously researched tasting menu of up to 17 plates at Michelin-starred Mana in Manchester.
Out here in Wildboarclough, the only barrier to sleep might be birdsong or the roll of the river. Pick from ten gorgeous en-suites and a crazy, kid-friendly attic space.
Bedrooms one to eight are superkings with an en-suite shower, while bedroom nine adds a freestanding bath. Bedroom ten is a fully accessible room and wet room, and bedroom eleven is in that attic, offering ten curtained alcoves, each with a single bed and changing space. There’s a shared bath and shower room.
Anywhere located in a place called Wildboarclough (pronounced Willbercluff) should capture children’s imaginations. Will there be wild boars? Can we go hunting? Sadly, this is the place where the last ever wild boar in England met its demise. But today, it does offer great walks to Shutlingsloe Hill and around Macclesfield Forest.
But you don’t need to venture out to have fun here. Daleview Manor comes fully loaded for a good time. First up, with space for 30, you can bring enough family and friends so that it feels like home. You might also like the idea of your sleeping quarters being ten curtained-off single beds in the attic room. Plenty scope for midnight feasts.
But bedtime’s way off. Let’s kick off the day with breakfast on the terrace or around the kitchen island. Next up, a swim in the heated indoor pool. Lunch? Maybe an al-fresco affair with the South African-style barbecue or pizza oven. In the afternoon, play pétanque and croquet in the gardens or explore the orchard.
As evening drops, supper’s served on the 30-seat dining table with garden and sculpture views through the tall glass. Older kids might want to bubble away the evening in the wood-fired hot tub, while everyone will want to get together for movies in the media room with its big projector screen.
