As English as England once was

On the edge of the Cotswolds, Kemerton is as English as England once was. The village hall hosts parties, classic cars sit in front of the pub, and Bredon Hill beckons your boots. Coach House Cottages welcomes families, friends and hens but also creative souls keen to indulge their passions, in pottery, art and printmaking workshops.

Jump into the covered pool, have a hit on the tennis court, get steamy in the sauna, and simmer in the hot tub. Gardens here are as English as red roses. Wander 15 acres of exquisite wisteria, foxgloves and lavender, play croquet on the lawn, take out the shared boat on the lake, keep the kids moving in the playground.

There’s room here for 24 plus dogs in the Coach House and Courtyard cottages, with parking for a mere 50. So bring your cars down the twisty lanes. Inside, the cottages are manor-house plush. So settle back and tee up the remote for log-lit family films streamed on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Now TV.

Pop into Kemerton for breakfast or ice cream in the coffee shop and ceramics in the pop-up shop. Sip a pint in the courtyard at The Crown. Then come home to table tennis on the deck, late-night marshmallow toasting on the firepit beneath twinkling stars, sleepy silence and the comfort of pocket-sprung mattresses and white Indian-cotton sheets.

Pool, hot tub, gardens and grounds

Coach House Cottages are manor-house magnificent on the inside, but they’re arguably even more beautiful on the outside. Wander 15 acres of classic English gardens bedecked with pergolas, wisteria, willows, lavender and foxgloves.

Lose a few hours in the covered 15-metre pool, the hot tub and the sauna. Play croquet and garden games on the lawn, watch the kids go wild for the playground with a Wendy house, push the boat out onto the lake and just let go. Stay out for the seductive sizzle of the barbecue or a game of table tennis on the decking and enjoy starlit chatter around the firepit.

Cooking and dining

Both cottages come with well-equipped kitchens complete with gas hobs and electric ovens. Bag deliveries from the major supermarkets or back local independents such as Draper’s deli, Meadow’s butcher’s, Woody’s fruit and veg, and Donnington Trout Farm. Tough day in paradise? Take it easy with our own professional caterers.

Eat around the Coach House’s elegant refectory table that’s good for a couple of dozen, or out on the terrace in the sunshine among the pergolas and the wisteria. Chuck your bangers and burgers on the gas barbecue and pop open a bottle from Ledbury Wines. Or order up takeaways from Bredon Fish and Chips, Zitto e Mangia or Domino’s Pizza.

Back from Bredon Hill? Call in for a cappuccino at Kemerton Coffee House or pop in for a pint at The Crown Inn. Stick around for Ceylonese curry, baked sole or steak-and-ale pie. Or try The Mount at Stanton, beautifully nestled in the heart and the art of the Cotswolds, for local produce with rich flavours.

Tackle a trio of Gloucester Old Spot sausages at The Anchor in Eckington or treat yourself to poached lemon sole or dry-aged fillet of Scotch beef at Russell’s of Broadway. Take afternoon tea in an English country house at Buckland Manor. Or enjoy English and European classics at The Ivy in Cheltenham.

The grounds themselves was very well kept and there was plenty of activities to do on site, as well as a notice board and pamphlets about walks and attractions around the local area.
