Escape the everyday and slide into a world of seals, seabirds and sailboats on the Welsh coast. Blue Bay Retreat sleeps up to 15 friends and family across the main house and apartment, just a stone’s skim from Pwllheli’s Blue Flag beaches, marina and harbour, once a haven for smugglers and centre of European wine importation.
Smuggle in some Prosecco of your own and post your Insta snaps and stories over the Sky Wi-Fi. Cook, or be cooked for by our pros, in the modern kitchen. Retire to shoot pool in the games room and bicker over who’s the best board-gamer. There’s a Tassimo, toaster and microwave for midnight munchies.
Conquer Snowdonian peaks, follow the Llyn Peninsula Coastal Path, struggle with the local language, meander the town’s independent shops, boutiques, pubs and cafes. Watch for dolphins over fish and chips on the harbour wall. Come home to beautifully boutique en-suite bedrooms and a fabulous family bathroom.
There’s no garden at Blue Bay Retreat, but the terrace provides delightful outside space. After a day in the mountains or exploring the coast, slip into the hot tub and count the stars.
For epic al-fresco escape, Pwllheli’s two Blue flag beaches offer miles of sweeping sands and views across the estuary to the Welsh mountains.
Recently renovated, Blue Bay Retreat is tasteful, tranquil and totally geared around cosy comfort and family fun. There’s a modern mood to the neutral décor, accented by on-trend colours and classy splashes of copper and chrome. Make yourself at home with coffee from the Tassimo and snacks from one of the big fridges.
The open-plan space in in both the main house and apartment makes it easy to move from dining space to living room as the evening progresses. Finish off the cheese and wine, load the dishwasher, then settle back in front of the media wall for the full Sky TV package. Don’t forget the games room for pool and board games. Flick the kettle on, would you?
The kitchen’s a gem in both spaces, with a breakfast bar for your coffee and croissants, electric ovens and electric or induction hobs. Fill the fridge-freezers with goodies from Farmer and His Wife or Pwllheli’s outdoor market, and fizz from Gwin Llyn Wines. Prefer to put your feet up? Book our pro chefs while you sip Prosecco.
Wander the promenade with fish and chips from Arvonia, or order in wood-fired pizza from Smokey Joe’s, Pekish for kebabs, Madiha for Indian and Phoenix for Chinese. Eat around the oak dining table, finish up with a Tassimo coffee and drift into the living room to crown the day.
Eat locally and seasonally at popular Whitehall, with mussels from afon Menai, crabs and lobsters fished off Enlli, scallops dredged at Carreg Llam, Welsh lamb and cheese from Ffatri Laeth. Try Tremfan Hall for Sunday lunch, with sea views from the terrace. Or start the day with a Thomas the Tank Engine-themed breakfast at Buffers.
Try Pili Palas for afternoon tea or Welsh rarebit or Allport’s for fish and chips. Tonnau Restaurant comes highly rated for Thai green vegetable curry, sliced glazed pork belly and miso-glazed cod loin. Round up your flock for steaks at Lost Sheep or tuck in to whole Dover sole or baked king scallops from Twnti Seafood.
There’s nothing like sea air for dozing off into a dreamy sleep. Just 500 metres from the beach, you’ll sleep like heavy driftwood in eight beautiful bedrooms sleeping fifteen. Freshen up in four en-suite bathrooms and two family bathrooms across the two apartments.
In the main house, on the second floor are three double bedrooms, two with en-suites, plus a separate single and family bathroom. On the third floor, you’ll find two further double bedrooms both with shower-room en-suites.
For space for four more, add on the apartment and you’ll find two ground floor double-bedded bedrooms, sharing a family bathroom with freestanding bath.
