Life’s a beach in Bournemouth

Enjoy a south-coast break in a bleachy, beachy hideaway just 300 metres from the roll of the surf and the heartbeat of the bars. Bournemouth’s Beach Hideaway sleeps 20 family, friends, hens and the odd dog, offering movies and merriment in the open-plan spaces, drinks on the garden terrace, and a surfer-dude style throughout.

Beachy, bleachy house with its feet in the water

Get some sand between your toes with a beach break for up to 18 in sunny, sandy Bournemouth. Just a 300-metre walk to the ocean, Beach Hideaway is where good times happen for friends, families, hens and the occasional dog, mere minutes from the bustling and hustling of the beach bars and bistros.

There’s a suitably bleached-out, beachy look to the four floors here. Settle back on homey sofas in the open-plan living and dining space, make short work of some popcorn over a family film – note down your Netflix password – and stream away on the BT broadband.

Eat around the bench seating in the kitchen or out on the garden terrace beneath the call of the gulls with burgers from the barbie. Escape inside to the lower-ground snug, a multi-generational marvel. Sleep wrapped in exquisitely soft sheets beneath high ceilings and watch the world from enormous windows.

Breakfast on the patio, then follow the road straight to the sea, down to the cliffs and the coves, the surfing and swimming, and Bournemouth’s unique charms. Zipwire your way down to the beach, ride the cliff railway, climb the wall on the pier. Dust the sand off, hit the bars, sample the seafood, watch the sunsets. Life here’s a beach.

Living spaces

Plenty of flexibility for multi-generational groups here. Beach Hideaway is perfect for friends, families, kids, hens and four-legged friends looking to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, or reunite and recharge. Get together in the big open-plan space or sneak away for a little solitude to the snug.

The main living area here brings together the kitchen, dining room and lounge. There’s a light, white, bright feel to the décor and a washed-out beach vibe to the furniture. Settle back on the soft sofas to watch a movie on the widescreen TV. Don’t forget your Netflix password as you log on to the BT broadband.

Beach Hideaway is a little bit beachy-boho, and yet it’s well-appointed, clean and cosy. You can be as together or apart as the mood takes. Chefs can socialise as they stir and simmer, or just keep tabs on the match on the widescreen TV as they chop and chat. Chillax, plump the cushions, pour some more Prosecco.

Cooking and dining

You’ve everything you need in the elegant, modern kitchen to make every dinner a winner, including two ovens, two hobs, two fridge-freezers and two dishwashers. At Beach Hideaway, most of life takes place in one place, so you can socialise as you stir, then all sit down at the big kitchen table to butter the bread and uncork the wine.

Prefer your meals al-fresco in the salty sea air? We don’t blame you. Right off the lower-ground floor, the garden terrace table will take eight or so and the coal barbecue is ready to do its stuff with the steaks and sausages. Stock up at Brazilian Beef with fizz or a ripe red from Westbourne Wines.

Book a bottomless brunch at Peachy Queen and finish off with a Pornstar Martini. Tuck into a steak sandwich or mixed grill, or share a tapas, at The Durley Inn. Try burgers, beer and American classics from the wonderfully named Sixty Million Postcards. Or wash down your pub grub from The Goat and Tricycle with a real ale or two.

Urban Garden’s a colourful place serving everything from a quick coffee to cocktails to a three-course meal on the treetop terraces. Head to Flamingo for Cajun fried chicken, tacos, platitos and pancakes. Or how about traditional Chinese dishes with a modern approach at 1805?

Bedrooms

The air’s good here, down on the south coast, so you’ll sleep like heavy driftwood on a deserted beach. Pick from seven exquisitely decorated en-suite bedrooms sleeping 18, with creative scope for one or two more.

Up on the third floor, family-friendly bedroom one sleeps four in a double bed and bunk bed, while bedroom two offers accommodation for three, thanks to another bunk. Bedroom three is a double. On the second floor, bedrooms four and five each provide for two in double beds, and bedroom six sleeps three with a bunk.

There’s a double bedroom on the ground floor, handy for anyone with mobility issues, and the sofa bed in the second sitting room will give you another double, meaning you’ll be first out of the door onto the patio for bacon and eggs in the morning sunshine.

Children welcome

Kids love a bit of sea and surf and Beach Hideaway puts you just 300 metres from some of the best on the south coast. But there’s plenty to hold their interest on site as well, in a beach house that’s big enough to accommodate mums, dads, grannies, cousins and even a couple of four-legged friends.

This is a multi-generational space that gives you options when it comes to socialising or sloping off. The main space is the huge open-plan kitchen, living room and dining room. It’s the perfect stage for recharging after a day spent bombing around the beach. The downstairs snug is perfect for those wanting to escape with a book and a game.

TVs? You’ve got a widescreen in the main sitting area. Don’t forget your Netflix password. This open-plan area is perfect for grown-ups trying to play both chef and childminder at once. The lower-ground-floor snug also comes with a smart TV for those looking for alternative viewing.

Need a little injection of vitamin D? There’s plenty outside space off the lower-ground floor. The garden terrace gives you a table and chairs for up to eight and the promise of summer barbecues under the seaside skies and the call of the gulls. For those with younger children, bedroom one offers a double bed and bunks.
