A raver’s haven

Into football? You can see the soaring, roaring stands of Liverpool’s ground from Anfield 88. Just 400 metres from the stadium, you’re well placed to catch the match, then indulge yourself in a true raver’s haven afterwards. The wifi comes for free and there are just the nine flatscreen TVs for box sets, films, or more footy.

Head out to the hotspots in The Baltic Triangle, brimming with buzzing warehouses such as Camp and Furnace, 24 Kitchen Street and Constellations. Meet a cosmopolitan crowd in Concert Square, or spend the night in slightly cooky Krazyhouse. Try the Ropewalks district for buzzing bars such as The Peacock and Salt Dog Slims.

The Cavern Quarter and Williamson’s Tunnels are just an Uber ride away, Mathew Street’s within striking distance for hens, and the O2 Academy is ready and waiting with some great gigs. Come back home to a Tardis-like party house that can sleep up to 21.

Break out to great spaces like the neon-lit private underground bar, as cool as anything on Mathew Street. Pull up a chair at the bar or tables and get Sky Sports up on the wall TV. Sober up in the living room with a coffee on the comfy sofas and get some sounds going on the Sonos. Or get the telly on. The footy’s starting.

Living spaces

The warehouses that dot the Baltic Quarter and the cheery establishments on Mathew Street have their charms, but you have no control over the clientele in those venues. Not so at Anfield 88.

Head down to the basement with your mates to enjoy a beer or six among your carefully curated crowd of mates. With its neon-lit bar, exposed-brick walls and studded-leather chairs, the bar at Anfield 88 scores highly with hens. Speaking of scoring, there’s a wall TV for the footy. Pull up a pew.

But you’re not restricted to the bar. Head to the living/dining area, opened up to create a double-sized space that seats a dozen or more. Two flatscreen wall TVs mean you can keep up with more than one match. Given the location, though, Everton’s is unlikely to be on the agenda.

Cooking and dining

This is a Liverpool terrace and you can be sure you’ll never dine alone. A stylish dining room complete with split-face tiling and wall TV (natch) caters for 16-20 around four glass tables. Keeping the army marching is a double-oven gas range with seven burners and a microwave. Watch this space for a barbie out in the yard.

Looking for a lazy takeaway? L4 abounds. Try Little Italy Pizza for much more than pizza, including kebabs, bolognese, chicken burgers, gourmet burgers, jacket potatoes and dips. Or how about The Golden Dragon for Char Sui, Sweet and Sour, Chow Mein or Vermicelli?

Eat out at Cabbage Hall Bar and Grill, home to quality food and a warm atmosphere. Choose from bar and grill classics, and a great Sunday roast. Or how about Kemp’s Bistro? The doors are always open here for breakfasts, lunches, daily specials, cakes and even an afternoon tea for two.

Maray Liverpool comes with bare-brick walls and pendant lights. Choose from an eclectic menu served on small plates. Wash it all down with cocktails. Alternatively, The Egg Vegetarian Café serves meat-free food in an airy loft with exposed girders, a mezzanine floor and gallery space.

Live it up in Liverpool

Live it up in Liverpool, a city described by Rough Guide as the world’s third-most-visitable. Eat, drink and be merry in a Chinatown that seems half as big as China, back a nag at Aintree, vulture the culture at the galleries and museums, and party, party, party. The lights never go out in Liverpool.
