Easter Weekend: The Northern Highlights

The long weekend we’ve all been waiting for is upon us and we’re all in on it! Make this little offering part of your reading list as you gather a large group of your family and friends for some truly priceless time spent reunited. This is one of those times of the year when planning lengthy itineraries will serve you well, but you also have the luxury of taking things slowly. There are distractions for every age range and it’s like two weekends in one – so make it twice as fun!

Below you’ll find a handful of some of the best things to do in Cumbria and beyond. If you’re lucky enough to be in the area – have fun! If not, you’ll soon see why so many happy holidaymakers return to these areas year after year…

Teddies are Key

This weekend many a teddy will be making an appearance in the Western Lakes. Muncaster Castle is the place and for four full days children go free when they bring along their Edward or Ted, their Rupert or Pooh. This castle, like many in the area, offer a myriad of fun things for the little ones to get involved in, and this year the RSPB and Woodland Trust will be present with stands for children’s crafts and activities. What more do they need for the perfect day out? Okay, there will also be a bouncy castle!

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

Brockholes is a delight of the North. There are countless species of wildlife to spot amongst enough land for hours of walking. Woods, lakes, pools, a marsh, lookouts, a Visitor Village and river surrounding the whole package – Brockholes has it all, and this weekend promises to bring even more to the table for children. Meet the Easter Bunny and take part in some great Easter-themed activities. Kids will even receive a chocolate treat.

Babe, the Sheep-Pig

If it’s a show you and the family are after, you’d be mad to miss Babe, the Sheep-Pig, which is coming to The Lowry this weekend. Perfect for the kids, this classic, inspired by the film, is guaranteed to entertain – you’ll probably love it yourself! Who doesn’t love the story of the piglet that wins over the suspicious and daunting farm animals at his new home farm, becoming a world-famous sheepherder! This show is packed full of laughs, thrills, amazing puppetry and original music.

Fun on the Farm

If Babe has inspired you to see some authentic countryside, get to Mrs Dowsons and see the real thing! There are daily animal talks to be heard and the Lambing Live 2017 to be experienced. You can eat, drink, shop and – you guessed it – take part in an Easter Egg hunt. Again, this is the perfect thing for the kids but is also guaranteed to be a fun and healthy day out for your whole group.
