There’s nothing quite like a day at the beach to completely relax. Luckily, if you’re visiting the Gloucestershire area, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful beaches and activities. From lush sands and sea to delectable food and fun for all the family, Gloucestershire won’t let you down.
Whether you want something right on your doorstep or you don’t mind travelling a few miles for an exciting day out, there’s plenty to do within the Gloucestershire area. Take a look at some of the best beaches near Gloucestershire and what you can do when you visit
The Cotswold Country Park and Beach
The Cotswold Country Park and Beach is home to the biggest inland paddling beach in the UK. Do your little ones love to paddle and swim? The swimming and paddling lagoon is supervised by lifeguards throughout the peak season, so it’s a great idea to head there during the summer months.
The beach area also offers adventure playgrounds and a climbing area, along with an array of water sports. The whole family can enjoy swan pedalos and rowing boats or kick the fun up a notch with mini-port themed electric boats and Vertigo Adventures.
When you’re ready for some lunch, the beach area has a selection of places to stop off for a picnic. If you don’t feel like doing the work yourself, you can also grab a bite to eat at the Beach Shack Café or the Pizzeria.
How much does it cost?
You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the prices at The Cotswold Country Park and Beach. A family of up to 5 people can enter and park for just £14.50 or £16 with a gift aid donation. These prices are peak season prices, so you’ll also get a discount if you visit at off-peak. Peak times are between 20th of July and 1st of September. However, taking part in some of the activities while at the park and beach will have additional costs.
Portishead Beach
If you’re looking for peace and tranquility, head to Portishead beach for a few hours. This beautiful pebbled beach boasts breathtaking views with the edge of South Wales across the waters. Whether you’re just spending time away from the hustle and bustle of life or you want to dig into some activities for the family, Portishead beach has it all.
What activities are available?
If you’ve got young children, you’ll find a great park nearby that will occupy them for hours. If you want to do something a bit different during the warmer months, there’s an outdoor swimming pool where families can splash around to their hearts content.
There are also some amazing cycle paths around the beach area that are ideal for families. Families with toddlers and babies frequent the area because the paths are so smooth and easy to handle. It’s also a great place to walk dogs if you like to bring your furry friends on holiday with you. Dogs are welcome all year round, so they’ll never have to miss out on family fun.
Weston Super Mare Beach
The beach at Weston Super Mare is exactly as you’d imagine it. Golden sands between your toes, clean and crisp water rippling in front of you and a magnificent pier to explore. Whether you’re making sandcastles with the kids or going for a romantic evening stroll, this beach has it all.
Sit and eat some of the renowned fish and chips from the nearby shops and let the kids enjoy a donkey ride across the sands. If you’re lucky, you could plan your trip at the same time as an event at Weston Super Mare. Events at the beach often include live-air bands, funfairs and much more.
What’s nearby Weston Super Mare?
The area of Weston Super Mare is full to the brim with things to do. There are two museums: The Helicopter Museum and Lambretta Museum. The Helicopter Museum has a great collection and staff even dress in different uniforms to give you information on the time period the helicopters come from. The Lambretta Museum is home to a collection of vintage scooters. Even if you’re not a scooter enthusiast, this museum is still an interesting visit.
There’s also a water adventure park nearby which is ideal for families with children. The park is full of great outdoor attractions and it costs just £2.50 per child.
