Go Ape, get steamy, mix it up

Kids can Go Ape in Delamere Forest or take the monorail at Chester Zoo. Meet the penguins at the mountain zoo or chug along the Dee on the steam railway. Grown-ups can raid the Chester boutiques and the big brands at Cheshire Oaks, rejuvenate at Kinmel and Kinspa, then mix it up with cocktails at Prohibition.

For the grown ups

Bring your credit card and head out to Chester to raid boutiques such as Laundry and City Gate, and refuel with coffee in The Jaunty Goat. Or make a day of it at the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Centre, home of big brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Boss, Mulberry and Molton Brown.

You could land another bargain by fishing for trout from the deck right here at Waterwheel House. Alternatively, there’s great fishing at Llandegla Fishery, wrapped in beautiful scenery and offering fresh trout in the café. Try a little organised archery on site, or shoot clay from the sky at North Wales Shooting School.

Into golf? You can enjoy 11 water holes at Padeswood, with its tree-lined fairways, or head to Carden Park for two championship courses and the chance for a reviving spa afterwards. Prefer to walk without clubs? Try the Chester city walls, Snowdonia or just a one-hour jaunt from the door behind the Ffrwd Pub.

Rejuvenate at Grosvenor Pulford Spa, with its pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym and sensory garden. Or will it be Kinmel and Kinspa, complete with Thai restaurant? Amp up the adrenaline with Ribride, a superfast boat trip along the Menai Strait. Or glide out from Conway Marina with Boomsailing.
