Big memories for small families

The Red Barn is rarer than the red kite in North Devon: a four-person holiday home built for small families looking for big memories. Kids can raid the house in the woods for fresh eggs from friendly chickens, play footie on the lawn, and hit the beaches for crabbing and shrimping.

The smallholding with big ideas

With holiday homes in North Devon often the site of barnstorming parties and mass gatherings, the Red Barn is that rare thing: a four-person holiday home. Bigger family? Rent the barn with Cob Farm and make merry with more.

Red Barn near Bude has families at its heart: it comes with cots, high chairs, handysitt, stairgates and even a steriliser, so you travel lighter. The shrimps and crabs of the North Devon coast are ready to cower from small fingers. There’s wifi, DVDs and armfuls of games should the clouds part.

Your kids will grow up with memories of raiding the secret house in the woods for fresh eggs from friendly chickens. They’ll make the treehouse their home. Fuelled by poached eggs on toast, they’ll launch into garden footie as you take your place in the stands – the wooden sundeck – replete with liquid refreshment.

At the final whistle, potter off through the sprawling acres to discover a fruit-festooned orchard and flower-filled meadows. This is a smallholding with big ideas. In the evenings, break up some logs for the woodburner and break out the brandy as you make plans for another family-friendly day on the Devon coast.

Living Spaces and Gardens

The Red Barn has its own large private deck overlooking a very large (football friendly) garden and tree-lined fields, set within a sprawling smallholding and sandwiched between nature reserves.

Kids can explore and find the secret house in the woods while picking up fresh eggs from our very friendly chickens.

The terrace faces east so it’s steeped in sunlight all morning. Stray beyond that and you’ll find a fruit-festooned orchard and flower-filled meadows.
