City, countryside, coast. Enjoy the best of all worlds at Hope Lodge. Just a joyfully thrown mortarboard from the University of Exeter, this is the smart city break with beaches and bucolic moorland thrown in. Drink and dine; walk or ride across Dartmoor; stroll on the sands at Sidmouth. We’ve got it all.
Sleeping up to four, Hope Lodge is great for business, great for small families, and perfect for visits to undergrads. There’s a unique ambience here, among the Moroccan flourishes, the Mediterranean courtyard and the boutique bedrooms.
After a day exploring the city, coast or moors, light the logs and settle down in front of the smart TV. Dog usually at your feet? Four legs are fine here. Drift off in the soft-cottoned four-poster. Wake to the buzz of the city; escape to the calm of the country or coast.
Only a short distance from the buzz of the city, the courtyard terrace is the perfect place to refresh and unwind in the sunshine.
There’s a small garden to the side of the property, too, ideal if your four-legged friend wants to stretch his legs.
Hope Lodge is effortlessly elegant, every detail has been thoughtfully laid out. There’s a unique collection of art and artefacts that bring a Mediterranean feel to the south-west coast of England.
The squishy sofa seats four, so you can be cosy as you like. Light the logs and settle back in front of the flatscreen smart TV with Freeview and DVD player. Break out the popcorn and uncork the wine as you fire up a family film night. It’s time to be a family again.
The kitchen is the heart of the home and the fount of hearty concoctions cooked by you, or us. If cuisine’s your thing, the electric single oven with grill and gas hob will get the job done nicely. But if you’d prefer to settle back with a glass of red, our chef can put his whites on and rustle up a roast. Just say the word.
There’s a breakfast bar here, for sloshing down a smoothie (machine provided) or kick-starting the day with coffee and croissants. You can slide out from here to the courtyard terrace, where the table and four chairs suggest drinking and dining al fresco under the summer sun or the evening stars.
Eating out? You’re five minutes from the bright lights of Exeter. For a tempting tapas, try Forn, or The Exploding Bakery for handmade cakes. The Rusty Bike’s the place for pig-cheek fritters or ox kidneys, and it’s Harry’s Restaurant for pulled-pork burrito or spicy sizzling fajitas.
Hope Lodge is no mega-mansion, but it is perfectly formed. Two sumptuous ground-floor bedrooms come with oodles of clean-lined style.
After a day exploring city, countryside or coast, the master bedroom is a king-sized haven with eclectic arts and artefacts and a four-poster that makes your stay just that like bit special.
Bedroom two is also a stylish, comfortable double. Freshen up in the large, contemporary bathroom with bath and shower. Here in the English West Country, the accommodation is a haven.
