Felin Newydd is all of life’s pleasures rolled into one. In this gorgeous country house for 18 the log baskets and chambermaids come as standard. Butlers, chefs, childminders and outdoor pursuits can be arranged.
It is the quintessential venue for a classic and memorable house party. Standing proudly among the Brecon Beacons, here even the night sky is officially protected from pollution.
At Felin Newydd, the riding boots stand to attention by the door, constellations glint in the inkiest skies, and the down duvets await the deepest of sleeps. You could get used to this.
Bordered on the south side by the river, their framework marked by sweeping lawns and majestic historic trees, Felin Newydd’s gardens are undergoing extensive renovation after a period in the shadows, to return them to a 21st century version of their original 19th century landscaped splendour.
A new intimate garden is being created on the east side of the house. Enclosed by a chest height yew hedge, a new lawn will be flanked to the south by a generous rose-filled border to provide glorious scents and jewelled colours from early summer through autumn.
Behind the house spring bulbs also flood the wild woodland garden, the pathways leading through ranks of daffodils, then bluebells and camassia, later roses and clematis spill down the walls and wild flowers take over underfoot. At the eastern end, rhododendrons take over, forming a dense screen to the lane and the river, specimen trees include a stunning magnolia, and a small fruit orchard leads to the river’s edge.
Alongside the west of the house a charming sitting and dining garden has been created, a large table and barbecue sit on the generous stone flagged area, bordered by scented flowers and fresh herbs for the pot.
Felin Newydd is an ideal venue for entertaining. The big farmhouse kitchen is at the heart of the house.
The dining room seats 18 comfortably, and there is plenty of room for everyone to relax in the drawing room and morning room – or have a game of snooker in the games room.
REN toiletries, a stocked wine cellar, wireless connectivity, a baby grand piano, secret doors, a burbling, trout filled brook, hollow trees, fifty acres of garden and parkland to explore – just some of the little things which make Felin Newydd so special.
The house is available for serviced or un-serviced exclusive use. The property will be staffed where necessary, fully catered when requested and entirely private if desired.
At Felin Newydd you can get as much or as little help in the kitchen as you need. You may like the house to be fully catered, or you may like to have a special evening celebration organised and do the rest yourselves.
We can provide you with washer uppers to take the sting out of cooking. BBQ’s, packed lunches or picnic baskets can be prepared for you or delivered to a specific location. The bespoke kitchen offers enough space for the most demanding of chefs and is often used for cookery demonstrations with a large central island, a long kitchen table seating up to 12 with large double doors into the dining room door.
The kitchen door opens out to the conservatory with a further large table and there is also an outdoor area for al fresco dining. There is a 4 door, oil fired AGA and a 6 burner gas range with large electric oven, two sink areas, larder, fridges, freezers and dishwasher. A perfect space where you can enjoy making the cooking and preparation a focal part of your house party.
The house has nine large double bedrooms, three of which are ensuite, and four further bathrooms. All reached by stunning, galleried stairs and landings.
Crisp white linen, deep feather down duvets, wonderfully comfortable Vi-Spring beds, fresh flowers from the garden, log fires laid each morning, piping hot water and a morning maid service all help create the luxury and style of Felin Newydd House.
