The Cider Barn sits within 20 minutes of the coves, watersports and wetsuits of Polkerris Beach, offering the perfect balance to families and groups hungry for a beautiful setting, top features and local attractions.
Sleeping sixteen in a two-acre slice of Cornwall, the Cider Barn offers plenty of Gallic charm, sitting at the Fowey end of the Saints’ Way, which led early Christian travellers to Brittany. Inside, the charms are brought up to date: swim in the indoor pool, hang out in the hot tub, wallow in the freestanding bath.
Gather in the TV room and cosy up with a movie on the 54-inch TV. Chuck some logs on the woodburner and tell tales after twilight. Luxuriate in stylish bathrooms and sleep easily by the hush of the surrounding countryside.
Gather around the outdoor kitchen with wood-fired pizza oven. There’s seating for 16 and a fridge for chilling the drinks.
Right next door you’ll find the hot tub. Pile in, pop the Prosecco and toast the big skies. Warm down with a game of table tennis. Then cool off in the indoor pool.
Somewhere out among the two acres the Cider Barn becomes Cornwall and Cornwall turns into Polkerris Beach. This is what they mean by the Great Outdoors.
The living room opens up with stylish, country-chic interiors and all the mod-cons you could want. A true compliment to the surrounding countryside, the Cider Barn uses green off-grid electricity and hot water generation, as well as its own spring water.
There’s a partition here and there for private page-turners but there’s a seamless flow from relaxed lounge to diner to fancy kitchen. Fire up the logburner (logs included) and swap stories past twilight as you break out the playing cards and clink your glasses.
Want to watch a movie or need to catch the match? Gather in front of the 54-inch Smart TV in the TV room.
Everywhere you look, there’s a rustic charm. Dotted around are cider jars, copper pots and chunky, shabby-chic tables supporting books and coffee pots. Put your feet up and dip into both.
Cook your fresh fish in two ovens with built-in microwave and on the five-ring inductor hob. Or say the word and let our chefs step in for a special occasion or fully catered break.
But the pull of the Cornish outdoors might be too strong: maybe you’ll succumb to the idea of dipping in and out of the hot tub and pool as something delicious cooks in the wood-fired pizza oven, part of the outdoor kitchen that also includes a fridge and seating for 16.
Wanting to be waited on? The Rashleigh Inn is an eatery with its feet in the water: team crab and prawn sandwiches with Cornish cask ales and ciders. Try Sam’s on the Beach, a former lifeboat house, for a chilled-out vibe, fresh local food and delicious seafood dishes alongside wood-oven pizzas. Soak up the bay views over fresh-caught lobster. Head into Fowey for fine-dining at The Old Quay House with a side order of harbour views.
Sleep is a precious resource and at the Cider Barn it comes gift-wrapped.
Eight bedrooms sleeping 16 comprise bespoke, hand-made and reclaimed wood furniture, as well as crafted doors made from reclaimed 100-year-old Teak. Five bedrooms are kingsize all with ensuite and one the ground floor. An additional three splint link superking bedrooms are on the first floor.
Beautiful coloured fabrics and other special touches will send you off to sleep in style, and you’ll wake up feeling recharged and ready for more fun in the country.
