Beam House in rural Surrey is full of beams. And you’ll be beaming, too, when you see the two huge reception rooms, the inglenook fireplace that’s ready to warm your toes, the two acres of classic English parkland, the six delicious bedrooms sleeping 14, and the mezzanine area in the separate lodge.
There’s a tasteful mix of the formal and informal here, but you won’t be expected to wear any black ties. Instead, bring your whites for the all-weather tennis court, your cossie for the heated outdoor pool, and your popcorn for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Now TV on the big-screen gogglebox.
You’ll find Beam House in West Horsley, on the edge of the Surrey Hills and the Sheepleas Woods, in semi-rural solitude amid barns, thatched roofs, and quiet country lanes. It’s a place to shrug off the day-to-day, round up family and friends, hens or stags, dive into a more laidback life, and put your bothers on the back-burner.
There’s a crunchy gravel drive to set the tone of your stay, and two acres of English landscaping in which to soak up the sun, waste an afternoon in the heated pool, and belt a few backhands around the all-weather tennis court. Rackets and balls provided.
Looking for a place to get together amid velvet sofas and herringbone floors? With space to congregate and spaces to separate? You’ve two bountiful and beautiful reception rooms here, plus another cosy area in the lodge, including a drawing room with an inglenook fireplace that’s ready and raring to roar away.
The living room comes with a big-screen wall TV beneath its ancient beams. It stands ready to serve you up the latest blockbusters and binge-worthy material from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Now TV. Stream away on the superfast Wi-Fi. Pack some popcorn, chill the Prosecco and make a night of it.
Pick from two kitchens: the kitchen/diner in the main house and a smaller affair in the lodge suitable for snacking. Binge on the breakfast hamper. Cook on the Rangemaster with six-burner hob with meat from Conisbee’s and bread from The Bakery Shop. Gather around the 14-seat table and just add red, white or pink from Horsley Wine.
Want the full holiday feeling? Put your feet up with Prosecco while our chefs pull on the whites. Book yourself a fully catered break or one-off celebration. Keep the relaxation coming with a takeaway from Merry House (Chinese), Shahbaz Taste of India, or Vindaloo in Leatherhead (milder curries are available).
Pub-grub it at The Black Swan, a culinary hotspot offering herb-roast chicken, short-rib burgers and pan-fried seabass washed down with a stunning selection of international wines. Try The Barley Mow in the village, with a lively atmosphere and a history dating back to the 16th century, but much fresher menus.
Grab some gastro at the Duke of Wellington, including eggs Benedict or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast. Pick from the pizza menu, pasta menu or cocktails menu at La Meridiana. Or try Yasmin for Indian classics, including veggie, or Tara Bar and Restaurant for top Thai tucker.
In rural West Horsley, plus a cushion of two acres of English garden, there’s not much to disturb your dreams here. Pick from four spacious bedrooms on the first floor and two on the ground floor, plus a sitting room/bedroom in the lodge.

On the first floor, bedroom three is a double with a private bathroom, while bedroom four provides a double and shares a bathroom with bedroom five, another double. Bedroom six is an annex with a double and its own bathroom.
