Kids ahoy!

What is there not to do for kids around here? From seal sanctuaries to theme parks to bucket-and-spade days out, Cornwall has it covered.

Ride the Canyon River log flume at Flambards theme park or the family-friendly, animal-rich Crealy Adventure Park. For more fur and fish, try Newquay Zoo, Plymouth National Marine Aquarium, the National Seal Sanctuary, or take an Orca Sea Safari.

There’s a working lighthouse at Lizard, ghosts and ghouls to spot down Poldark Mine, the origins of the King Arthur legend to be discovered at Tintagel, and adventures to be had at the Eden Project or in Dartmoor National Park or Bodmin Moor.

Choose from some of Europe’s finest beaches, explore the rock pools, canoe the coastline, climb the cliffs, pedal the Camel Trail. Cornwall is made for kids.

For the grown-ups

Ride the river-boat trips, tackle the moors on horseback, hop around the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project on discounted tickets, play 19 holes at the spectacular St Mellion Club.

Spend a night at Plymouth’s Theatre Royal or the outdoor Minack Theatre on the cliffs at Porthcurno. Wander the narrow cobbled streets, warehouses, specialist shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants of the Barbican. Visit the Poldark set or try a tipple at the Gin Distillery.

Take your pick from Plymouth’s eateries, from all the major cuisines of the world to quintessentially English cream teas, lobster and dressed crab, local beef and poultry, or just fish and chips on the harbour wall.

Visit in August and catch Europe’s biggest free fireworks show, ride the Wheel, dive into the harbourside lido, or canoe around the bay that hosted the Americas Cup.
