Cosy up with someone special

Cosy up with someone special in a retreat that’s all stone-wall rural on the outside, and city-chic on the inside. Walk the Devon hills, pop in for a pint, then come back to a long soak in the freestanding bath, films by the fire, and the chance to rediscover the magic that first brought you together.

Relight the fire in a rural retreat

Bolthole, haven, hideaway, escape. Lilcott Barn, part of the Beachspoke complex, is all these things. Cute as a button on the edge of Devon’s Honiton, this is a place for lovers to reignite the magic that first brought you together. Get ready for stone-wall rural on the outside, city-chic on the inside.

The top-level one-bedroomed Barn sits like a Bond villain’s lair under its unassuming bucolic thatch, in the shadow of the Blackdown hills. Over here is a Bosch touchscreen oven and a Nespresso machine, over there a rainfall shower and vintage freestanding bath.

Walk the rolling hills, call in for a pint, then come home to a hot soak in front of the licking flames. Towel off, turn the lights down low and pour the drinks as you snuggle up in front of the smart TV with your Amazon Fire Stick. In the open-plan kitchen with four-stall island, there’s a lazy feast waiting to be created.

As dusk falls over the rolling hills, snap out the light and head to the large superking bedroom. There’s a smart TV there, too. Just add chocolates. Before turning in, relax in the rainfall shower, then drift off to the sound of silence. Wake to unending views and coffee and croissants on the terrace.
