Grab a slice of the good life

Peace here at The Lake House in Whitby is dented only by scrabbling badgers or the dipping beak of a heron. Inside, the woodburners are crackling, the Aga’s ready for fresh local fare, our chef’s on call and the coast is just a seasplash away. Put your feet up on the balcony over the lake, pop a cork and grab a slice of the good life.

Lose yourself in reflection

At The Lake House on the Raithwaite Estate near Whitby, the sense of privacy and utter calm is dented only by the nocturnal scrabbling of a badger, the dipping beak of a heron or the splash of a waterfall. In this Yorkshire oasis, you can take a glass of something chilled out to Raithwaite Lake and lose yourself in beauty, reflection and seclusion.

Not that you’ll be skimping on luxuries. First impressions will be coloured by a grand, sweeping staircase, perfect for strolling arm in arm down to dinner, and a crackling woodburner. But the farmhouse kitchen with Aga will have to wait because those French doors need to be flung open and corks need to be popped on the patio.

At dinner, it’s your call. Get busy on a banquet yourself or rent our chef and butler, indulge in imaginative cuisine, then waive the washing-up in favour of lounging and lolling, glass in hand. At Hunters Bar or Poachers Bar in the Raithwaite grounds, happiness is a hearty menu, flickering fires, cocktails and the crackle of happy chatter.

In the evening, walk the woodlands, sit and sip with someone special on the balcony overlooking the lake, make yourself at home within deep layers of luxury that have welcomed stars of music, TV celebrities or just dozens of happy families like yours.
