Imagine The Hamptons transposed from its elegant Long Island beach setting to a wild and wooded Cotswold lakefest. That’s The Lakes by Yoo, brimming with luxury, bursting with natural elements and zinging with breezy health. And Bowmore Lodge fronts south across the largest lake, with 1000 feet of terrace akin to a boat deck.
Get romantic or get away with the family and nestle down amid sumptuous Starck-designed interiors. Country-chic tones are warm and welcoming, furnishings snug, textures a mix of natural elements. The deck is begging for a barbecue as you wave to the passing watercraft, and the steam room’s sublime after a day on the water.
Sleeping 11, Bowmore Lodge is where chasing chickens and riding mountain bikes outside sits in wonderful contrast to the layered luxury inside. The private chef is at your beck and call, the spa awaits with its magic-fingered therapists, and you’ll laze in the clawfoot bath before sleeping deeply to the lap and splash of the night water.
The sound of silence resounds here, across the vast sweep of the largest lake on site, in the forests and in the lake breeze that filters across your 1000 feet of private deck. This is the land of serenity and sanity. Throw a line from the terrace, put your feet up and pick up your supper.
Take a dip in Bowmore Lake, or dip the oars of your three-man kayak in the water. Your boat sits atop the lawn, in front of the willows that weep onto the water’s edge. The deck faces south and the barbie is ready to sizzle in the sunshine.
At The Lakes by Yoo, the gardens go on forever, with 650 acres of wild woodland, lake and eco-adventure. Sail or swim right off the deck. Kick back on the terrace as the kids discover the tennis, tepees and trampoline, the kids’ club and the School of Rock or Ben Fogle’s School of Wild.
After a day on the water, the logs in the lounge demand to be lit. Unless of course the sun is still streaming in through the wall of glass behind the south-facing deck. Break out the cards, or break into charades, grab a Nespresso, set the Sonos soundtrack to smooth and serene, and just chill.
You can be together here or break out as you please, with areas for everyone among interiors lovingly and lavishly created by Philippe Starck’s team in warm, earthy tones and natural textures. Escape to the TV room for big-screen film nights and surround-sound indulgence. Relax, spread out, be a family once more.
You don’t pass time in these lovely spaces, you catch it. You stop time in its tracks, and observe it as you laze on the outdoor deck together, choose a movie from the DVD collection or just stare into the flickering flames of the woodburner or the mesmerising ripples on the water.
For late-night indulgence before slumbering to the sounds of the lakewater, the two-person steam room is a delightful diversion.
If only there were a place where you could dine on the water’s edge, with the glass doors pulled back and the sun from the south streaming in. Where you plucked your meals from a menu lovingly prepared by your private chef. And where you could all get together round a big oak table to sip wine, break bread and swap stories.
Bowmore Lodge is that space. There’s a welcome hamper to make you feel right at home right from the start, and we’ll stock up on essentials and little luxuries. We’ll even meet your food delivery service and have your meals served by uniformed staff.
If you caught a trout or tench from the deck, head over to the Saturday Hook and Cook barbie to share your stories and smoke your catch. Or head out to the 100-foot terrace, with its easy loungers and unspoilt views of the lake, to sizzle steaks and sip beers.
Lechlade’s the place for Italian at L’artigiano, while Colley’s takes its tastes from the streets of Bangkok to the food-truck festivals of Florida. For the finest dining of all, get your glad rags on and tackle the tasting menu from the Michelin-adorned Lords of the Manor, with linguine of native lobster, port-marinated duck liver and more.
Sleep the sleep of the just in a nature reserve, with lakewater lapping at the deck outside the full-height windows. Facing south, they suck in the sun and radiate the rooms.
Bowmore Lodge sleeps 11 in four spacious bedrooms and one palatial suite. Warm, neutral tones come with fluffy rugs and snug furnishings for a sense of immaculate opulence.
Option one at Bowmore is the master suite with superking bed. Spend the evening in the private steam room, laze in the clawfoot bath, then sleep for England with the doors open and the lake breezes filtering in past the curtains.
Bedroom two is a superking, too, while bedroom three offers options in the way of two bunks and a trundle. There’s a king bed in bedroom four, and bedroom five comes with a double sofa bed. All rooms are fitted with transcendental tranquility as standard.
